Jak and Daxter : Keira and the batfly

Note from the artist: (I have no intention of supporting any ship related to the Jak and Daxter franchise and/or fandom. This old illustration is supposed to be taken humorously).


I am sorry I had to cut Daxter and Samos's faces (I drew a small hornbill on Samos's hair brooch instead of the yellow/blue passerine.. oops X]).

So, this little fluffy critter is supposed to be a close relative of the Jak and Daxter species. They can fly!
Maybe is a transition between Lombax and humans, I mean in the games.

They evolved in the snowy mountains by sleeping upside down, and got a bacteria inside them, that makes them develop huge membranes attached to their members. Thanks to that they evolved sonar, bioluminescence and are able to sense frequency disruptions. Oh, and aphid-like bugs love them, a lot, because their bacteria are quite sought by plants for their beneficial properties, for example, absorbing solar light. So yes, plants love these little critters.

Each species is adapted to a specific climate, but the forest critter has some of the biggest wings I have seen! Colourful, but this picture is old; I was not able to catch those colours. Only males let their wings grow big size, and they are the ones who take care of the babies when they are born. Commonly, females always give birth to a pair of twins. Males take care of the little ones by embracing them with their huge wings, almost like a chrysalis. Their babies will fight to death for the best spot, but thanks to this caring papa, nobody gets hurt.
In this special time, they always stay next to each other in colonies, sleeping upside down by holding a branch with their tails. The forest critter is the only species that still has a prehensile tail.

Game info:
Most animal species in the Jak and Daxter universe are a mix of two species into one: the moncaw is a mix between a monkey and macaw (wonder how it envolved feathers, and if it is related to humanoid species in this game) and the crocadog, which is a mix between a croc and a dog, but quite reminiscent to the cynodont. You will see a striking resemblance to the beasts of the tv series Primeval, the Therocephalian and Gorgonopsid. There are exceptions like the flut-flut, who was only a baby in the game. I think it is pretty fun to dig into the universe, and see what it is about.

Maybe Motbat should have been a more proper name. Moths and butterflies, with a mix of bats, are what inspired me to create this species.
